Game of Thrones Season 5 – Review

I would just like to apologise for the EXTREME lateness for this review but both Amy and I have are only just able to function adequately after the season finale.

I would also like to add that this review will be as SPOILER FREE as possible, I’m not making any promises about the previous seasons but nothing in season 5 will be spoiled for others.

WELL… what a season eh! I don’t quite know what to say! It was kick ass! Going into this season I really didn’t know what to expect, it’s almost impossible to predict things in this TV show, although I had a fair idea of its genuine direction, when it came to characters like Tyrion the trailer gave a pretty clear image in what direction they were heading. Other than that I was pretty clueless.

I can’t really do much of an overview without spoiling things so I’m just going to say that characters go to new places and a lot of it is… surprising? And they’re all in some serious shit. Vague, I know, but hey, I don’t think you want to be spoiled, now do ya… There were so many good episodes in this series, each time it finished I was like WHAT? And would look at my dad who was just as surprised and confused as I was. Some of the storylines this year were very confusing, I don’t know how many times I said “da faq is Arya doing?” (and no that’s not a spoiler, just a bit of insight…)
However I did feel as though there were some storylines that went a little bit too far and perhaps didn’t need exploring as much as they were, I’m not going to say who’s but it was quite controversial and got a lot of discussion. I just thought it was a little too much, if you’ve seen the season then you’ll know what I’m on about…

Quite a few characters died this season, some I am more than happy are dead, others make me want to crawl up and die with them. Yes, I’m serious. I AM NOT GOING TO SAY WHO DIES SO DON’T WORRY! But it was fairly traumatic, especially the season finale…

But before I leave, I would just like to say, if you do know who dies or what happens in a popular TV show DO NOT POST ANYTHING ON SOCIAL MEDIA! This comes from personal experience where the season finale was spoiled for me. For those who don’t know, Game of Thrones is shown in the US on a SUNDAY night, but in the UK it’s shown on the MONDAY night… you can see where this is going… well some inconsiderate person thought they would tweet the MAIN DEATH of the season finale approximately 4 hours before the airing time in the UK. It was fair to say I was pretty furious. So please be careful and just watch what you put on social media and be considerate of those in other countries with a delayed airing date.

Sorry about that little rant at the end there but I just needed to get it off my chest… Other than that it was an incredible season! Full of twists, turns and hidden surprises! I’m going to award this a 5 out of 5 stars!
And I’m sure you know by now that Game of Thrones contains violence and adult themes so I’m sure I don’t need to remind you to bare this in mind before watching…
If you have seen this season and are completely up to date then please pop some opinions in the comments, but please can you keep them spoiler free? Thank you!

Crown Of Midnight – Sarah J Maas

Oh my Gosh, Oh my Gosh! This series just keeps getting better and better! The storyline and the characters were just once again perfect and the book held so many twists and turns! This ladies and gentlemen is how to write a sequel!!

Crown of Midnight carries on from the first book as we follow our Campion Celaena Sardothien as she takes up her role as the Kings Assassin. However, it isn’t that simple. In her most recent task, Celaena must uncover a rebel group as well as uncovering the mysteries around her…

With that said, I guess you’d probably like to know why I love Crown Of Midnight so much. I loved this second installment even more than I did the enthralling Throne of Glass, though it was a close call! Crown Of Midnight is a classic good old fashioned fiction and a must read for all!! There was so much action and adventure packed into this book, never leaving a dull moment!! And I am very very excited for ‘Heir of Fire’ (it’s on my Christmas List!) What did I love the most about Crown Of Midnight?! Everything!! I loved loved loved the writing style as the description and detail included help makes the world and the characters more convincing and believable!

Oh, the characters! In Crown of Midnight we still have our main characters from Throne of Glass; Celaena, Chaol, Dorian, and Nehelemia! But we are also introduced to so many more – I never knew who to trust, who was good, who was bad, making the book so much more addictive!

Sarah J Mass has created a perfect combination of original characters that you can root for as well as despise, unpredictable mysteries, plenty of romance, action and adventure and so much more. Certainly 5/5 Stars!!!!

For those new to the series, I have also written a spoiler free review of Throne Of Glass

The Scorch Trials – James Dashner

First and foremost I must apologize that we haven’t posted a review in a long time. Thanks to school, work has been piling up and we don’t have time to write reviews and most importantly read! Well, let’s get to it, ‘The Scorch Trials’! I loved the first book and the second book didn’t disappoint as it was just as good! It is full of action, adventure, and constant suspense! I couldn’t put it down!!

‘The Scorch Trials’ carries on from the first book as our group of protagonists continues their journey of unlocking the secrets of W.I.C.K.E.D as well as facing new fears. The Scorch is a hot deserted mess of deadly obstacles which is set up to test the survived Gladers. I can’t give too much away without revealing spoilers however I can assure you it is packed with action and adventure.

In the book, we meet a load of new characters which I think is great and each one of them is different. But of course, we can’t forget original graders who still play a large role in the book. I loved seeing our protagonists develop throughout the book as they faced different challenges however there are some characters I would just love to give a good smack to!!

This book had everything; a gripping storyline, lovable characters, and constant cliffhangers! There was never a dull moment and I am so glad that we found out more and more about W.I.C.K.E.D as otherwise, I don’t think I could have coped with living in the unknown! But Dashner always left a chapter on a cliffhanger, I never wanted to put it down however this got annoying as I didn’t know when/where to stop! I also loved that I never knew who to trust, who was good, who was bad, I thought I figured out something only for that idea to be shot down the next chapter after. It was brilliant!! Even though I loved this book to pieces, I still loved the first one more, but I think it was because the concept was so new and brilliant that I was completely blown away.

Overall I thought this book was a fantastic second installment to the series and I can’t wait to read the ‘Death Cure’!! I am happy to award it with 4/5 stars and I recommend you certainly read this series!! If your unsure on whether to or not please check out my spoiler-free review on ‘The Maze Runner’ and hopefully that should persuade you!!
