I was instantly drawn to this book when I saw people were calling it a futuristic Gossip Girl, and that is exactly what it was, it was full of romance, drama, and secrets; I couldn’t put it down. McGee cleverly added a murder mystery aspect to it which I really enjoyed and kept me thinking throughout the whole book and I really hope there’s going to be a sequel because it can’t end there!
A hundred years in the future, New York is a city of innovation and dreams. Everyone there wants something…and everyone has something to lose. Amid breathtaking advancement and high-tech luxury, five teenagers struggle to find their place at the top of the world. But when you’re this high up, there’s nowhere to go but down….
The world-building is fab and well-developed, and best of all, it draws on the universal love of New York City. Besides the awesome world building, I truly enjoyed the overlapping storylines, as well as the mystery and suspense that is fantastically woven into the plot. The characters all come from different backgrounds and yet, they are all inexplicably tied together from the start. This book gave me chills and thrills, and it left me simultaneously flailing and breathless. The different points of view all worked well, usually, there is always a character you look forward to reading about the most but for me, I looked forward to every chapter and every character. There isn’t a lack of drama in the book and in every chapter a new and exciting secret is revealed.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book as it wasn’t your typical contemporary thanks to its mysterious back plot which will keep the reader thinking so I’m definitely going to give it 5/5. If you’re a fan of Pretty Little Liars and/or Gossip Girl and are looking for something easy to read then I highly recommend that you pick this one up!
